Having read a few list’s myself today,I thought I could do better,so here we go!
Top 10 of the funniest movies of all time –
10 – The Naked Gun – 1988
I remember seeing this as a kid and laughing throughout, there is a joke around every 7 seconds,Lesley Neilson’s dead pan looks stand the test of time and still get a laugh today.
Quote: Frank – Yes. Well, when I see 5 weirdos dressed in togas stabbing a guy in the middle of the park in full view of 100 people, I shoot the bastards. That’s *my* policy…
Mayor – That was a Shakespeare-In-The-Park production of “Julius Caesar”, you moron! You killed 5 actors! Good ones.
9.Coming to America – 1988
It seems 1988 was a good year for comedy,Eddie Murphy was in his prime, playing several characters in this movie,it’s fresh, the jokes and dialogue are original and very funny.
Quote : If lovin’ the lord is wrong, I don’t want to be right
8.Lemon Popsicle – 1978
If you watch movies from this decade you could be forgiven for thinking that everyone was very boring and had no fun, apart from going on respectable dates to the local burger joint,Lemon popsicle is the original to movies such as American pie, three guys spend most of their time trying to fulfill one ambition.. To get laid!
The humour is slap stick, but with an outstanding soundtrack and dark moments, it would be a crime not to include this film in my top ten.
Quote: [about Girls] They ain’t virgins, you can tell by the way they walk, ain’t that so Bobby?
Dumb & Dumber – 1994
Dumb & Dumber was probably a film that unless Jim Carey and Jeff Daniels were cast would have been an oddball movie that threw up the odd laugh,as they were cast,it’s still an oddball movie, but probably the funniest oddball movie ever made, the conviction of dumbness from the pair of them, along with the fact that they both have a large retarded funny bones, makes this a classic movie.
Quotes : I desperately wanna make love to a school boy
There’s something about Mary – 1998
The film that launched Ben Stillers career,he has gone on to play a dozen characters since this movie, all relating back to Ted,The Farrelly brothers really capture the feeling of lust mixed with a genuinely funny backdrop.
Quote:You choke the chicken before any big date, don’t you? Tell me you spank the monkey before any big date. Oh my God, he doesn’t flog the dolphin before a big date. Are you crazy? That’s like going out there with a loaded gun! Of course that’s why you’re nervous. Oh my dear friend, please sit, please. Look, um, after you’ve had sex with a girl, and you’re lying in bed with her, are you nervous? No, you’re not, why?
Arthur – 1981
Arthur (Dudley Moore)must have had a good time playing this role,I certainly had fun watching,he plays Arthur perfectly, when I watch his performance I believe 100% that he is drunk, maybe he was,but you only see what a magical job he did when Russel Brand (who I like) failed miserably.
Very witty and fantastic writing.
Anchorman – 2004
The first time I watched this I hated it,I didn’t enjoy the parody or the silly element to most of the film, years later,I watched, and the penny dropped, I now love the movie and can probably quote more lines from it than I am proud to admit.
Quote: They’ve done studies, you know. 60% of the time, it works every time. [cheesy grin]
Young Frankenstein – 1974
Gene Wilder has the ability to let the viewer be part of the journey he takes in movies,I instantly feel relaxed when I see him on the screen, the humour is dark, juvenile,as well as being wickedly funny.
Quote : Wait Master, it might be dangerous… you go first.
The Life of Brian – 1979
The Monty Python humour is unique,if you view all of their programmes and films I don’t think they have performed better than in this movie, when the movie was first released it became controversial for the Church which probably helped with publicizing the movie, not like it needed any help,to take a serious issue and spin it completely with no worry of offending is what makes this movie hilarious.
Quote: You’re always on about it. “Will the girls like this? Will the girls like that? Is it too big? Is it too small?
Stir Crazy – 1980
Chemistry is obviously vital when you have a comedy due,Wilder and Pryor are probably the best in the comedy business, with a blend of Wilder’s wide-eyed optimism, matched with Pryors eccentric street talking, it makes this film my number 1,there are so many moments in this film that could not have been scripted, the extended sarcastic look, the loopy stare, the psychotic mood swings.
Quote: A hundred and twenty five years… Oh God, Oh God… I’ll be a hundred and sixty one when I get out.
