My favourite England games –
England 5 0 Greece 0 – 1994 – (Old wembley)
I was a teenager on holiday in Ibiza at this time, the spanish ice cold beer was flowing,my family and friends were in holiday relaxed mode and the football England played was exciting and creative.
England 4 – Holland 1
I remember before this game that there was a feeling of dread for most England fans, the Netherlands had hurt us in the past, most of their players were winning the Champions league or their domestic league titles.
My initial thought when Paul Ince won the penalty, I hope we can hold onto this lead…to go on to wipe the floor with the masters of the beautiful game was simply breath taking.
Our players were all playing at a 10,it was as if the whole country was energising the players to play well, and play well they did,the game is summed up with the Alan Shearer goal,England had several chances to shoot at goal, they instead chose a hatrick of disguised passes which ended up with Shearer’s right foot placing a powerful shot into the roof of the Dutch net.
