England 2 Italy 1 – A pointless game but a nice tribute from Defoe

After England played Italy at the Euros some people could have had asked the question, was this game worth playing,Well yes and no,the timing could not have been worse, two days before the season starts is a joke.

England done well to get a win,but I’m sure even they were surprised with this win,Defoe struck a beautiful goal after England broke on the counter attack,as tried to control the ball on the edge of box, most armchair fans kicked the dog as they saw it as a chance wasted, but when all seemed lost Defoe showed great strength in holding off the defender before smashing the ball into the roof of the net from just outside the box.

After the game Defoe dedicated his goal to his cousin who died last week after being electrocuted in a swimming pool, very fitting in what has been a tough year for Defoe whose Dad died while the Euro’s was kicking off earlier this year.

Apart from Defoe,Adam Johnson played very well with some nice runs but looked rusty from lack of games at City.

Italy and England both played under strength teams which is great experience for the players but a questionable positive when it comes to playing real competitive games.

Overall England were more composed on the ball tonight, but half of these players wont even be on the bench when England tackle the world cup qualifiers.
