A night at the Roxbury (1998) Movie review; Will Ferrell’s practice movie

I remember as a teenager finding this movie funny and exciting, it involved dumb ass guys chasing woman and generally making a fool of themself.

Over a decade later and I found the characters less absorbing ,Will Farrell show’s some of the early promise that his career eventually delivered, but Chris Kattan is amazingly annoying, he comes off as silent hypochondriac,by this I mean his face is pulling so many expressions I don’t know if he is happy, sad, mad or just crazy,There is no surprise that his career failed to blossom like Ferrell’s.

The movie has moments of funniness but it also has many moments of boredom,on first viewing I was in a time of life which included trying to sneak into nightclubs, I can see why I ignored a lot of the pitfalls of this film and concentrated on the sexy girls and goofy guys,it’s harmless fun but it feel’s like Will Ferrell’s film school rather than a finished piece of work.

5/10
